Day Four of the US Open gets underway today, Thursday, August 31, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, featuring Andy Murray, Carlos Alcaraz, and Aryna Sabalenka among many others.

2012 US Open champion Murray will be the first to take to Arthur Ashe today, where he will face nineteenth seed Grigor Dimitrov. The Brit looked strong in his opening-round match against Corentin Moutet, defeating the Frenchman in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, 6-3. Murray has since said that he feels as though he is playing his best tennis since his hip surgery in 2017, highlighting that he is optimistic about achieving a deep run at the Slam.

Meanwhile, Dimitrov got through the first round with a bit more difficulty, defeating Alex Molcan in a five-set battle where three sets went to a tiebreak. The match went on for almost four hours and 40 minutes, making it the longest of the day. The Bulgarian made it to the fourth round of the 2023 French Open and Wimbledon. However, he is currently dealing with a back injury which is making it difficult for him to play at his best.

The two men have faced each other 11 times in the past. Murray has a commanding lead of 8-3 in their head-to-head, but this will be their first match in 7 years.

Later in the day on Arthur Ashe, defending US Open champion Alcaraz will take on South African player Lloyd Harris. In his opening round, the Spaniard won the first set against Dominik Keopfer 6-2 before the German retired from the match in the second set. Meanwhile, Harris defeated Guido Pella in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-4.

Alcaraz and Harris have never played against each other, and Harris’ powerful serve could see him hit some exciting winners. However, the top seed looked to be very much on form against Keopfer, suggesting that Alcaraz will continue his bid to defend his US Open title.

American player Madison Keys will also feature on Arthur Ashe, taking on lucky loser Yanina Wickmayer. American No. 1 Jessica Pegula will then close out the day on the main court, where she will play against Romania’s Patricia Maria Tig.

The highest-ranked player on Louis Armstrong today will be World No. 2 Sabalenka. The Belarusian took a commanding victory against Maryna Zanevska in the opening round, winning 6-3, 6-2. She will face World No. 96 Jodie Anna Burrage, who is in the main draw of the US Open for the first time. Burrage won a surprise straight-sets victory against World No. 37 Anna Blinkova in her first match but it is likely that Sabalenka will be the one to progress through to the third round.

Opening the day on Louis Armstrong will be sixth seed Jannik Sinner., who will be taking on his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego after defeating Yannick Hanfmann 6-3, 6-1, 6-1. The two Italians have faced each other twice in the past, with Sinner leading the head-to-head 2-0.

26th seed Elina Svitolina will also feature on Louis Armstrong, playing against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, before thirteenth seed Daria Kasastkina takes on Sofia Kenin. Closing out the day on the second most important court will be third seed Daniil Medvedev, who is likely to take the win against Australia’s Christopher O’Connell.

Over on Grandstand the day will start with a match between two American wild cards as Michael Mmoh takes on John Isner, who will be retiring after his US Open run comes to an end.

Ninth seed and reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova will then play against Martina Trevisan, followed by a face-off between Gael Monfils and eighth seed Andrey Rublev. Finally, fifth seed Ons Jabeur will take on Linda Noskova.

On Court 17, twelfth seed Alexander Zverev will be up against his fellow German player Daniel Altmaier, before 2016 US Open champion Stan Wawrinka faces 30th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Closing out the day on Court 17 will be a match between two qualifiers, as Greet Minnen, who defeated Venus Williams in the first round, takes on another American, this time in the form of 28-year-old Sachia Vickery, who defeated Donna Vekic in her opening match.

Elsewhere, sixteenth seed Cameron Norrie will take on qualifier Yu Hsiou Hsu on Court 11, while thirteenth seed Alex de Minaur will be up against Yibing Wu on Court 13.
