There was a significant drop in viewers during the last two days of the Wimbledon Championships, as computed by the BBC, which revealed fewer people tuned in to watch the men's singles final as opposed to last year.
The men's singles final saw a rematch of last year's final, with Carlos Alcaraz once again defeating Novak Djokovic to win his second consecutive Wimbledon title. The ladies final saw former French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova hold off in-form Italian Jasmine Paolini to win her maiden title at SW19.

Fewer fans tuned in for both finals, according to BBC

Although Alcaraz played some of the best tennis of his career to defeat Djokovic in straight sets, his achievement was seen live by less viewers on the BBC network. This year's final peaked at 7.6 million viewers on TV, significantly less than last year's peak figures of 11.3m. Streams were also down by nearly a million views, with 3.3m people tuning in on BBC iPlayer compared to 4.1m in 2023.
The ladies final was also watched by fewer people than last year, which saw Marketa Vondrousova defeat Ons Jabeur. The 2023 edition had a TV peak of about 4.15 million viewers, whereas this year's final saw a drop of about 400,000. However, there was a slight increase in the number of streams for the women's final, with 1.9m viewers watching it on iPlayer compared to last year's figure of 1.3m.
The reduction in viewers could be due to the EURO 2024 final also taking place on Sunday, with England battling Spain for the trophy. A peak audience of 24.2m watched The Three Lion's defeat to Spain on the BBC and ITV, with coverage being shared across both networks.
