Spain’s legendary tennis star
Rafael Nadal believes that
young sensation and his fellow countryman
Carlos Alcaraz will become ‘one of
the best in the sport's history. The 21-year-old is already regarded as one of
the best players currently playing in the men’s singles category, along with Italy’s
Jannik Sinner and Serbia’s Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz again reminded everyone of his supreme
talent as he won the
Wimbledon 2024 title after beating the former world number
one Djokovic in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. Nadal, regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of men’s tennis in
the singles category in the Open era, having won as many as 22 Grand Slam
titles, was recently quoted in a report where he praised Alcaraz.
The former world number one stated that the four-time Grand
Slam winner has all the qualities to become one of the ‘best’ in the history of tennis.
“My impression is that we are talking about a player who is going to be one of
the best in history,” he said. "His level of tennis is super high. If he
is able to stay away from injuries, of course Sinner is there. But today I see
him with Sinner above the rest without any doubt.”
Alcaraz’s win on Sunday was special for more than one
reason. The first one was because he managed to defend his title at an iconic, and on both occasions, he defeated one of the most iconic players in the history of men’s tennis. Last year, Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon in a
five-set thrilling contest with a score of 1–6,
7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4. That’s not it, as Sunday’s win was Alcaraz’s second
Grand Slam title this year as he lifted the French Open earlier after beating
Germany’s Alexander Zverev with a score of 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2.
