In a bizarre tennis/Eurovision crossover, Loredana Berte revealed that she wanted to be selected and win the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest for Italy in order to get revenge over her ex-husband Bjorn Borg.
Berte who is competing with the Song 'Pazza' (Crazy) says that the contest being held in Sweden means that she could annoy her ex-husband and gain a 'nice revenge' if she win. Berte and Borg had a short-lived marriage ending in 1993 after scandals and drug abuse. In her 2015 autobiography, she claimed that the 11-time Grand Slam champion and tennis legend was addicted to cocaine during their marriage and tried to force her to have relationships with other people.
But they say you never let go and despite the relationship ending over 30 years ago, Berte has her sights set on revenge and not only the artistic satisfaction of competing in the contest but winning it and rubbing the nose of Borg in it. The Sanremo Festival which Berte is currently competing in is a prestigious contest in Italy to pick who will head to Eurovision and Berte has competed 11 times with her best placing being fourth twice. So the chances of revenge? Unlikely.
"Vote for me, I want to win, I would like to go to Eurovision because it is held in Malmo so that I can annoy my ex-husband. And I get a nice revenge", said Berte.
