It has been announced that Carlos Alcaraz will not compete for team Spain in the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage set to take place next week, leading some fans to criticize the scheduling of the event.
Defending US Open champion Alcaraz crashed out of this year's New York major in the semi-finals after losing to Daniil Medvedev in four sets.
Following this Slam, the Spaniard was set to lead team Spain against the other countries in Group C of the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage. Group C also includes Serbia, meaning that Alcaraz was expected to clash with rival Novak Djokovic at the tournament, as well as with players from the Czech Republic and South Korea.

Alcaraz another big name to withdraw

However, it has now been confirmed that Alcaraz has pulled out of the event scheduled to take place in Valencia from September 12-17. He will be replaced by Albert Ramos as the team plays for a spot in the last eight, set to compete in the Davis Cup Final in Malaga from November 21-26.
This withdrawal comes after it was revealed that World No. 6 Jannik Sinner would not be a part of the Italian team for their Davis Cup Finals Group Stage, which will be held in Bologna next week.
The 22-year-old was visibly struggling with cramps during his US Open quarter-final match against Alexander Zverev which went on for a grueling four hours and 40 minutes.
Matteo Berrettini is also unable to take part in the event after sustaining an ankle injury in his second round at Flushing Meadows. The 27-year-old has recently updated fans on his condition, saying that while he hopes to be back on the ATP Tour shortly after the Shanghai Masters in October, he was "extremely disappointed that I will not be able to represent Italy in Bologna."
These withdrawals have led some fans to criticize the fact that the tournament is held so soon after the US Open.
"This is yet another withdrawal of a big player, which once again demonstrates how the scheduling of the event is completely wrong," wrote twitter page Relevant Tennis.
"Not a surprise, not exactly enough time to rest," added another.
However, some fans saw a silver lining, with one writing: "When you look at the injuries these players carry on playing with, it's unsurprising. But you can say it gives other players an opportunity to represent their country."

BREAKING 🚨 Carlos Alcaraz WILL NOT play the Davis Cup Finals Group Stage next week. Albert Ramos Vinolas will replace him. This is yet another withdrawal of a big player, which once again demonstrates how the scheduling of the event is completely wrong.
