Marco Cecchinato enjoyed his breakthrough in 2018 when he reached the semifinal at the Roland Garros, but struggled to deliver the same results since then.

2018 was a dream season for Cecchinato. After winning his 5th Challenger title, he managed to win his first 2 ATP titles and reached the semifinal at the Roland Garros. At the beginning of the 2019 season, he also managed to win a title in Buenos Aires and he also reached his career-high 16th place in the ATP Ranking. Now, Cecchinato dropped out of TOP 100 and he spoke about it to La Gazzetta, as well as about his new coach.

“We are at the reset, a new start. For me, it was almost a return to the origins with Sartori. When I was 17 I had been with him in Caldaro. We know each other well and I trust him. First of all, he has given me back confidence. He reminded me that Seppi won the first ATP title at the age of 27, while I have already won three tournaments at the same age, so I don’t have to be in a hurry. I moved to Vicenza with him and he trains me every morning and evening. I needed to be reassured and prove myself that I had not unlearned. After a month of intense work, I have already seen that many things, that I could not even do in training anymore, are now back. This makes me want to work even harder," said Cecchinato.

“I think that the slide down the rankings was a combination of several factors. I had the pressure to defend several points. Above all, I did not feel well physically. I was never right, so slowly I started to lose confidence and also the matches. Now I am aiming to return to the top 50. I want to show that what I have achieved in recent years was not the result of chance. But we have to go step by step," Cecchinato said.
