Paula Badosa was eliminated in the quarterfinals by
Emma Navarro after an impressive collapse in the second set. The Spaniard left painful images after bursting into tears during the match, which ended with a straight-sets victory for the American.
On the other hand,
Serena Williams shared new photos of her visit to Flushing Meadows, including the tribute she made to her iconic denim skirt outfit from more than 20 years ago.
Badosa sheds tears in emotional US Open quarterfinal loss
Paula
Badosa suffered a painful defeat in the quarterfinals of the
US Open against
Emma Navarro and cried during the match after an incredible comeback by the
American. The Spaniard will carry a bittersweet memory from Flushing Meadows,
having shown her best tennis in recent times and reaching the Last 8, but the
manner of her loss makes her elimination especially disappointing.
It seemed
like an open match for both players, following the eliminations of Coco Gauff
and Barbora Krejcikova, the main favorites in Badosa and Navarro's side of the
draw. With a great opportunity for both to reach their first Grand Slam
semifinal, the local player won in straight sets.
In the
first set, the American was in the lead the entire time and took the set 6-2
convincingly. It seemed like the match would go to a third set after Badosa
took a double break lead and was up 5-1 in the second set. However, Navarro
responded, capitalizing on the constant errors of the Spaniard, who showed an
evident loss of confidence. Finally, the world No. 13 won six consecutive games
to secure the victory 6-2, 7-5.
The
dramatic change in the match noticeably affected Badosa. With the serve in her
favor and already down 5-6, 0-30, the former world No. 2 took the ball to
serve, and her dismay was evident when she cried right at the end of the match.
Serena Williams wows in denim tribute outfit at US Open
Serena Williams shared photos of her time at the US Open, where she wore
an outfit paying homage to her iconic denim attire. The 23-time Grand Slam
champion was a high-profile guest at Flushing Meadows and attended several
matches as a spectator, including Grigor Dimitrov's victory over Andrey Rublev
in the fourth round, where she was seen supporting the Bulgarian alongside
singer Alicia Keys.
Williams, known for her significant presence in the fashion world, paid
tribute to her iconic denim skirt from the 2004 US Open. The former world No. 1
wore a denim tennis skirt this time to promote her Wyn lip gloss collection:
“This skirt looks familiar – oh, that’s me in the background. Yup, that was my
inspiration for this look. #USOpen,” she wrote on X.
Zverev delivers the shot of the tournament at US Open
Alexander
Zverev faced Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the US Open, as he seeks his
9th semifinal in a Grand Slam tournament. The former world No. 2 made an
incredible shot that is already being considered the best of the tournament,
and possibly one of the best of the year.
At Arthur
Ashe Stadium, Fritz surprised by taking the lead in the first set after a
decisive tie-break. The American No. 1 played at a superb level to keep up with
Zverev, who seemed to be the favorite beforehand. During the second set, Zverev
began to recover and made an incredible point with a parallel passing shot from
outside the court.
Leylah
Fernandez shares Ping Pong video with Sister Bianca following US Open Setback
Leylah
Fernandez shared a recent video of herself playing table tennis with her sister
Bianca. The former US Open runner-up is seen enjoying her free days with her
younger sister after her early elimination from the US Open. The Canadian fell
in the first round of singles to Anastasia Potapova, and then in doubles with
Yulia Putintseva, they lost to the first seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin
Routliffe.
The next
tournament on Fernandez's schedule is Beijing in the week of September 23,
giving her almost a month out of competition while she trains with Bianca. The
sisters dazzled in the past Canadian Open when they unexpectedly reached the
semifinals of the WTA 1000.
Emma
Navarro dances her way to US Open semifinals
Emma
Navarro (13th seed) secured one of the biggest victories of her career by
defeating Paula Badosa (26th seed) and reached the semifinals of the US Open,
marking her best performance in a Grand Slam. She is currently the only
American player in the last four.
A camera at
Flushing Meadows captured the moment Navarro danced with joy in the locker room
after her victory. Navarro now awaits the winner between Aryna Sabalenka and
Zheng Qinwen to determine her opponent for a spot in the final: "When
she's on the roadddd (to the semis) 🎵"

Danielle
Collins is enjoying some time off after her early exit from the US Open. The
world No. 11 played her last Grand Slam main draw after announcing her
retirement at the end of the season at just 30 years old. 'Danimal' fell to
Caroline Dolehide in three sets.
A week
