Carlos Alcaraz has made it clear that he does not consider himself to be unbeatable against any player as he prepares to try and defend his
US Open title.
Many fans are already talking about a possible final between Alcaraz and
Novak Djokovic at the last Grand Slam of the year in New York, but the Spaniard has stated that he is currently not thinking about anything beyond the opening match.
This comes after two epic finals took place between Alcaraz and 23-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic in recent months. The 20-year-old defeated the seven-time Wimbledon champion in the final of this year's SW19 last month before Djokovic prevailed at the Cincinnati Open earlier this week.
Alcaraz aiming for second US Open title
Alcaraz won the title at last year's US Open after he defeated fifth seed Casper Ruud in the final. This was the young player's first major title, and shortly afterward he claimed the top spot in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings for the first time in his career.
However, he has made it clear that whilst he is aiming for a second title at this year's Slam, he is also trying to take it match-by-match.
"Every slam I go to I try to win it. I have very good memories of last year, so let's go for it. Every player here, every match is tough. Every player can beat you.
"Mentally, we're going to try to forget that I'm defending the title, we're just going to focus match by match, show our best level in each match and see if at the end of it all I play at my best level and can get the second title here," he said.
Nevertheless, another clash with Djokovic in the final would be highly anticipated and thrilling to watch. This is especially the case because the 36-year-old was barred from entering the US for the major last year due to his unvaccinated status, making this the first time that Djokovic has competed at the US Open since 2021.
