The legal drama surrounding Alexander Zverev and his ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea took another turn, as a German regional court has banned a newspaper from publishing any reports on the ongoing case.
Zverev has been accused of domestic assault by Patea, who has a child with the Olympic gold medalist. Zverev has since denied these accusations, with the former couple engaged in a back-and-forth legal battle.
The Berlin Regional Court has ruled that reports made by the "Süddeutsche Zeitung”, a German newspaper, regarding criminal warrant procedure involving both parties, should be banned from its publication. The court stated these reports violated the principles of permissible suspicious reporting and therefore the newspaper must in future refrain from making significant allegations from an article on “page three” of the issue of November 3, 2023.
In their defense, the editor of SZ believes the decision to be inappropriate. Additionally, the editor stated they would appeal the regional court's decision, adding Zverev and his then partner gave insights into their private lives “on social media in front of an audience of millions”.
