Germany are through to the final of the 2024
United Cup after sheer drama in Perth in a deciding tiebreak against Australians where both teams had nearly double figures in terms of match points.
After Kerber’s win over Tomljanovic, Alexander Zverev failed against Alex de Minaur so it went to mixed doubles which they won with the latter and Laura Siegemund 7-6, 6-7, 15-13.
In the opening set which Zverev and Siegemund won, they went 4-1 up and on the verge before finally sealing the set finally 7-2 for the early impetus: they both exchanged breaks in the second set early on which were the only two difference makers as another tiebreak was set as Siegemund and Zverev made it 6-6.
This was win due to back to back breaks again 7-2. In the decider, the Australians went 5-2 up before spurning their chance as Zverev and Siegemund were patient and took their chances. Making it 5-5, the Australians again took the lead but the first two match points were brought up at 7-9 only for the home hopes to make it 9-9. They went 10-9 up and Zverev cramped only for the Germans to level again at 10-10 and brought up match point.
Again they went to 12-12 as the match rumbled on late into the Aussie night. 13-13 was brought up as Germany again missed a chance. But finally they got one more sealing the win 15-13.
