The German team has reached the final of the
United Cup.
Angelique Kerber played the first match of the semi-final and defeated Ajla Tomljanovic 4:6, 6:2, 7:6 (9:7).
Kerber had lost her previous matches and victory meant a lot to her now. The German also struggled against Tomljanovic at the start, but then got into the match well and turned her initial defeat into a win.
"I really enjoy playing here. It's the first singles win for me since my return. And it's a really great feeling," she announced after her match.
This great feeling is probably also what gives her strength and motivation, especially as Kerber was determined to follow up with more victories: "I've tried to learn from the last three matches. And to win such a tough match now means a lot to me."
After Alexander Zverez lost his match against Alex de Minaur, the mixed doubles had to decide whether Germany would go through to the final. Here it was above all a strong performance from Laura Siegemund that brought about the victory. Something that Zverev had also noticed: "She saved my ass," he commented with sincere words.
"We still have the chance to win the tournament. We are very happy," he concluded.
