Spain’s tennis player Feliciano Lopez believes that the
relationship between Spanish star Paula Badosa and the world number five
Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas is not affecting their performances.
The star duo has been dating for a while and are now considered
a powerful couple in the sport.
While the two have received a lot of love and affection from
the fans, they have also received some criticism from different quarters who
claim that their relationship is affecting their on-court performances.
Lopez was quoted in a report where he did not agree with
that notion and expressed happiness in seeing his Tsitsipas ‘happy’ with his
life.
“I am not the one to give an opinion,” he said. “I don’t
have the information, nor do I think it’s something debatable. That a player
has a girlfriend or boyfriend, that is not the subject of debate regarding his
tennis career. Stefanos is a great professional. Like any person in any field,
having a partner doesn’t have to affect his performance, not at all.
“I haven’t really talked to him about it. I saw him a bit at
Wimbledon and in Mallorca. We haven’t had much time to talk about it. I like
people to be happy, I like my friends to be happy. He is happy at this moment
in his life and I am very happy for him. I hope it goes well for them.”
Badosa is currently spending time on the sidelines after
suffering a back injury during Wimbledon 2023.
That halted her progress as she was forced to retire from
the second-round clash against Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the third Grand Slam
of the year.
On the other hand, Tsitsipas will be hoping to bounce back
after a rather disappointing outing at Wimbledon 2023 where he surprisingly
lost to America’s Christopher Eubanks in the fourth-round clash in a five-set
thriller with a score of 3-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
