Ukraine’s tennis star
Elina Svitolina revealed that she will
teach her daughter to be bold and fearless.
The 28-year-old has been very vocal about the ongoing war
between Russia and Ukraine. The armed conflict that started in February last
year has resulted in the loss of lives on both sides.
Svitolina was quoted in a report where she stated the thing
that she would like to teach to her daughter.
“It’s the spirit,” she said. “Hopefully I’ll play a few more
years so she sees I have this fighting spirit. I had it from a young age. I was
always fighting my heart out. To be bold. To be fearless.”
Svitolina was in the news during Wimbledon 2023 for more
than just her impressive performances as she took a strong stance while playing
against the Russian and Belarusian athletes.
The Odesa-born refused to have a handshake with the former
world number one Victoria Azarenka and stated that she will not have a
handshake with any player from Russia or Belarus until every Russian soldier
leave Ukrainian soil.
On the court, Svitolina has been pretty impressive off late
as she went all the way to the semifinals of the third Grand Slam of the year
and eventually lost to Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets
with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
