A few Chinese fans asked Jessica Pegula to sign their beer cans. The legend of the Heineken Queen lives on. 😂🍺
Jessica Pegula was asked by some Chinese fans to sign their beer cans while competing at the WTA China Open.
Pegula is preparing to compete at the WTA 1000 event in Beijing where she will face Anna Blinkova in the Round of 32 after receiving a performance bye in the first round. This came after the American made it to the final of the Toray Pan Pacific Open last week.
However, she is still being reminded of an iconic moment that she created at the 2022 US Open, which took place over a year ago. The now 29-year-old appeared in her press conference with a can of Heineken beer in hand after her defeat to Iga Swiatek in the quarter-final.
"I'm trying to pee for doping," she explained at the time, "Although it does help ease the loss," she jokingly added.
The decision to take a beer to the press conference caused a lot of amusement among fans and players alike, with Paula Badosa calling Pegula her "idol" and Ellen Perez describing the moment as "queen things."
Moreover, it is clear that fans are still thinking about it one year on with some Chinese fans in Beijing getting cans of Heineken signed by the World No. 5, thus reviving the story and leading fans to share their amusement once more.
"The legend of the Heineken Queen lives on," wrote The Tennis Letter on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Jpeg [Jessica Pegula] the greatest tennis influencer," wrote another.
"Hahahaha I would do the same," another commented.
Pegula was the third seed at this year's US Open but suffered a shock straight-sets defeat in the fourth round against Madison Keys. She currently leads her head-to-head with Blinkova 1-0, having defeated her in straight sets at the Charleston Open earlier this year.
