Although Wimbledon has been cancelled for the 2020 season, World No.2 Rafael Nadal still has a chance to add to his Grand Slam tally.
With
Roland Garros and the
US Open set to be held later this year, the Spaniard could see himself surpass
Roger Federer with the most Grand Slam singles titles. Federer currently holds 20 Major trophies but will
miss the rest of the season due to knee surgery.
Nadal has won 19 Majors, and could equal his Swiss rival's tally at this year's Roland Garros. However, he is currently residing in his hometown of Mallorca, where he spoke with Sports Illustrated about the benefits of being around the people who saw him grow up.
"I think I'm a very intense person with a lot of energy. I live life and sports at maximum intensity. This is how I feel it." Nadal stated.
"For me, coming back to Mallorca means coming back to a normal life. And normal life makes me happy. I'm not just Rafa Nadal, the tennis player. I become Rafa Nadal the human being again."
It was in fact in Mallorca where his talent was recognized by his uncle, Toni Nadal, who was a local tennis instructor.
"Normally, when you throw the ball to most kids, they wait for the ball to come to them…but when he was three years old, he went straight for it." Toni Nadal revealed.
However, there were no perks to being the instructor's nephew as Toni singled him out, making him pick up balls and sweep the court after practice.
