The
Indian Wells might well have the mixed doubles event as
well after the news broke on social media. The mega-event is moving towards
the business end as the remaining players are battling out to secure the ultimate
prize.
The competition generally has the singles category event to
go with the men’s and women’s doubles category events.
However, according to The Times tennis correspondent Stuart
Fraser, in a post on social media platform X — previously known as Twitter — broke
the news that the competition might well feature the mixed doubles event as
well.
“Indian Wells organisers have suddenly decided to host a
mixed doubles event this week. Players have tonight received a letter from
tournament director Tommy Haas offering the chance to enter an eight-team
invitational starting on Wednesday. The prize pot is $150,000,”
he wrote.
Before the start of the competition, there was a Tie Break tens
event that took place in California where a number of top players, including the
likes of the women’s world number one Iga Swiatek, America’s young sensation
Ben Shelton and others performed in the mixed doubles category.
It was the American pair of Shelton and Emma Navarro who ended
up winning the contest after beating the pair of Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas
and his girlfriend Paula Badosa in the final.
