Federer is without a doubt the most loved player on the circuit. He actually won the 'Fan's Award' sixteen times in a row, from 2003 until 2018, so that streak hasn't even ended. The Swiss superstar also has many records to his name (most Grand Slam titles) and he has been World No.1 for 310 weeks.

However, Janko Tipsarevic, a former world No.8, believes things will change one day: "Once Federer retires and Novak [Djokovic] is still playing and competing against Dominic Thiem, Sascha Zverev, Shapovalov or whoever is coming up, the crowd will generally cheer for Novak. That’s just the way it goes”.
When former tennis greatness Boris Becker was asked, he had a few things to say and even didn't shy away from a comparison between the both of them as a player: "It's very difficult to say, you cannot compare generations. Was he better than myself, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras. He won most Grand Slams but I have a hard time saying he is the best ever"
Becker continued on how he'd play Federer: "I do not think he likes my pace, the fact that I often come forward even on my second serve, not giving him much time to start his trademark forehand and backhand crosscourt", he explained, "The more time we give to a player, the better he becomes."
