Australian No.1 Alex De Minaur is one of the most physical players out there, but he admitted that he is wary about a sudden return of the ATP Tour.

The ATP is likely to make an announcement regarding the remainder of the 2020 season sometime this month, as the US Open is still scheduled for August. However, in an interview with The First Serve, De Minaur revealed he is against a rapid return to competitive tennis.
“We could end up with a lot of players getting injured, that’s my only concern.” De Minaur disclosed. “It’s all about finding a healthy balance. I can guarantee you that every single tennis player wants to get back out there and start competing again, but you’ve also got to look at the ways the players are going to be treated, their bodies.”
“At the end of the day you can do all the training in the world, put your body through five-hour training sessions each day but nothing compares to competition." De Minaur added. "The nerves, the stress, everything that happens in a match … that’s going to take a toll on the body.”
With the ATP hosting a zoom meeting this week in which all players have been invited, they are likely to outline their plans for the remainder of the 2020 season.
Having participated in the Valencia Tennis Challenge last weekend, De Minaur does have some match practice under his belt. The World No.26 went undefeated, winning his first two matches before the event was cancelled due to inclement weather.
"It was great actually. Even though it was technically just practice matches, I used it as an opportunity to get back into competing and get those competitive juices flowing again.” said De Minaur. “It felt good to be back on the court, that’s for sure.”
