The latter seemed to be the case with Jaden Agassi, as the son of Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi quickly found out. Although the 18-year old possesses the physical traits that could see him succeed at his parents chosen sport, he wants to put his athletic abilities to use in another sport.
The younger Agassi has developed a love for baseball, such that he has committed to playing for the University of Southern California. And according to Perfectgame.org, a baseball scouting service, Agassi can “easily hit the low 90’s on the mound, has a very high ceiling with the bat and keeps making jumps every time we see him.”
Perhaps having two parents who have either openly expressed their disdain for the sport (Agassi) or had a "crazy tennis parent" pushed the young man away from the sport of tennis. Nevertheless, Jaden Agassi, who pitches and plays third base, seems to be very proficient at baseball. He is currently rated as the No. 2 overall recruit in Nevada, and the nation’s 171st best player in the class of 2020.
“I love baseball,” Agassi told MLB.com. “I love the teammates, surviving and fighting with your brothers. Every game comes with a new set of challenges, and I really love figuring those out.”
However, with all sports temporarily suspended due to the pandemic, the MLB announced that it would be condensing the 2020 draft from 40 rounds to just five. This indicates that only 160 players will get drafted, as opposed to 1,217 from last year's draft. With Agassi being ranked as the 171st prospect, he theoretically could fall short of being drafted this year.
Regardless, the 18-year old should be able to handle any challenges that come his way, if based on nothing else but his pedigree.
