A magistrate has said that she does not understand the 'case for secrecy' as
Nick Kyrgios' request to see his assault case adjourned for three months was denied.
Kyrgios was charged during Wimbledon with common assault over an alleged incident in January 2021 with ex-girlfriend, Chiara Passari.
With the Wimbledon finalist currently in the US preparing for the US Open, he did not appear at Australian Capital Territory Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning but his solicitor Michael Kukulies-Smith asked for this to be moved until November 25 due to Kyrgios spending little of his time in the territory.
As well as an application being planned but this was not explained and magistrate Louise Taylor took issue with the lawyer's unwillingness to go into detail on why a delay was needed.
"I'm not quite certain what the case for secrecy is," she told Mr Kukulies-Smith in Canberra.
"Lots of defendants have matters they'd like the court to accommodate," Ms Taylor added, in reference to Kyrgios' schedule.
His lawyer said that the request was an 'indulgence' but was not able to give further information due to the 'large contingent of media' present which the prosecution said they did not support in terms of his want for secrecy.
