Paula Badosa has shared her heartfelt gratitude for those showing their support to her after injuries put an early end to her 2023 season.
The former World No. 2 has been dealing with injuries for most of the year after she was forced to withdraw from the semi-final of the Adelaide International 2 back in January.
Badosa was then forced to pull out of the Australian Open and the French Open before retiring from her second-round match against Marta Kostyuk at Wimbledon. She then aimed to compete on the
WTA Tour at the Canadian Open and the US Open but withdrew from both before announcing that she was shutting down the remainder of her season to focus on recovering from injury.
"After struggling for many months to compete again, I am ending my season. Those of you who know me know how much I like to compete and how difficult it has been to make this decision.
"We have tried everything together with my team but the pain is not letting me move forward. Thanks to the people who are still by my side in these hard times," Badosa said in a statement posted on social media at the time.
Badosa says she is missing tennis a lot
Recently, the 25-year-old shared an update on her emotions as she works towards competing again, expressing how much she misses the sport and thanking those still supporting her.
"I miss tennis sooooooo much," she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, accompanied by lots of crying emojis.
"And I wanted to give a special thank you to everyone here that supports me and that sends me kind messages. Makes me very happy in this moments," she continued.
Badosa previously expressed the difficulty she was experiencing being away from the sport on her Instagram page.
"I’ve never missed something more than this sport. Since I’m a little girl I’ve never experienced so many months away from it.
"All this time off I realize that setbacks are part life and it’s a way to learn and grow. It’s really tough being away for so long but hopefully sooner than later I’m that little girl playing and enjoying it again…," she wrote.
