Jannik Sinner put Italy back on track in the
Davis Cup Finals as he booked a doubles decider in Malaga which he and his singles opponent, Tallon Griekspoor will both play in.
Sinner who like Novak Djokovic who will also play today decided to turn out for his country after the ATP Finals watched as Netherlands took an early lead.
Botic van de Zandschulp saw off Matteo Arnaldi 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 saving two match points to give them a 1-0 lead in their opening Quarter-Final on Thursday. There was nothing to separate them on court, with both having similar rankings. But Van de Zandschulp battled back in a final set tie-break to claim the win.
Sinner himself breezed through against Griekspoor to anchor his country to remain in the competition. He saw off Griekspoor in a closely fought first set, before putting his foot on the gas to speed through 6-1 in the second.
He returns shortly alongside Lorenzo Sonego to take on the team of Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof with only the latter being a doubles specialist on the team. But with Italian fans aplenty in Spain, he will look to carve up a similar atmosphere to book their spot in the semi-finals.
In doing so, they will join Finland and Australia who booked their spots to start the week. Most matches have also gone to the doubles decider giving added drama for those in attendance in Spain.
