After only two seasons, Netflix Break Point has been axed because of poor ratings and concerns over access to the sport's leading players as per The Times with the attempt to make a similar product to F1 Drive to Survive not paying off.
Drive to Survive saw F1 revived and has brought the sport to a wider audience who never previously watched the motorsport and golf has also seen success with their own version of the series. But the results of the tennis iteration left fans underwhelmed and also angry in some cases.
In particular Novak Djokovic's Australian Open controversy was part of the cycle in which the series was filmed, but with the World No.1 not signed up it was merely mentioned. Also Alexander Zverev was spotlighted for an episode which given his ongoing issues with an upcoming court case left fans uneasy as well as the episode in question painting Daniil Medvedev out to be a villain.
Compared to F1, according to the article in question, hurdles have had to be navigated to get any access with producers left continually frustrated by the lack of access to top names and also having to jump through hoops to film content. As a result, the cameras have stopped rolling aside from a sudden upturn in viewing figures.
They also showed themselves to be attempting to showcase tennis differently with the Netflix Slam taking place recently between Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal which garnered attention all over the world. But just over two years after it first started, the behind the scenes look is already over.
