With the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of 2024 is about to begin. On the fast hardcourt courts in sunny Melbourne, there will be two weeks of competition for the prestigious title and millions in prize money.
A year ago, Novak Djokovic took his tenth Australian Open title and the Serbian No. 1 is also the top favorite this edition. His main challenger is Carlos Alcaraz. The top Spanish talent was the only one to beat Djokovic at a Grand Slam in 2023.
Among the ladies, things are a lot more exciting on paper. Iga Swiatek is ranked No. 1 by the bookmakers, but the top seed has never reached the final Down Under. Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff and defending champion Aryna Sabalenka are among the chasing pack, while two-time winner Naomi Osaka is also back.
