Only a few matches were completed at the 2024 Miami Open before the rain suddenly returned and weather forecasts look bleak for the continuation of the tournament on Friday with eight contests completed.
Coco Gauff was in no mood to hang around as she breezed past Nadia Podoroska, while Aryna Sabalenka defeated her best friend Paula Badosa 6-4, 6-3 in an emotional win after the tragic passing of her ex-boyfriend Konstantin Koltsov. Emma Navarro. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Ekaterina Alexandrova all won through too.
In the men's draw, Andrey Rublev was dumped out by Tomas Machac, while Ugo Humbert downed Botic van de Zandschulp. The likes of Naomi Osaka, Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner all are still set to play tonight, but it is looking likely it will either be a bumper Saturday or a late finish tonight. Rain continues to pour and in the city, pool parties are still taking place as well as DJ sets in the heavy rain. But in the case of tennis the lack of roof means that there is yet more delays.
Already certain matches have already been cancelled, those being: Thiago Seyboth-Wild-Taylor Fritz, Christopher O'Connell - Frances Tiafoe, Nicolas Jarry - Jack Draper, Casper Ruud - Luca van Assche, Juncheng Shang - Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Tommy Paul - Martin Damm Jr and Tallon Griekspoor - Alex Michelsen meaning that they will be added to tomorrow already. Since then, only Iga Swiatek and Linda Noskova’s matches are not cancelled with Jannik Sinner one of the latest additions to the cancellations. A tournament which has already seen players faint due to the heat, but it is the rain which is making players retreat.
