The Schedule for Day One at the Roland Garros French Open 2025 has been revealed, featuring the debuts of several major names in both the ATP and WTA. World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen will be among the day's big stars.
Some prominent names from the men's Tour are also included, led by Italian Lorenzo Musetti, along with Americans Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe. There will also be a chance for the debut of local star Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, one of the hopes for the French.

Court Philippe Chatrier

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will kick off the action on the main court, facing off against Russia's Kamila Rakhimova (No. 75), whom she already defeated on the same court in 2023 (6-2, 6-2). The Belarusian had a 10-match winning streak on clay until her loss to Zheng Qinwen in the quarterfinals of the Rome Open. Sabalenka boasts 47 wins in her last 50 Grand Slam main draw appearances and has reached at least the semifinals in 8 of her last 9 participations. The only exception? The quarterfinals at Roland Garros 2024.
Later, the Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen (No. 8) will take to the court. She returns to Philippe Chatrier, where she created lasting memories with six consecutive wins—including her victory over Iga Swiatek—and etched her name into the history books of Olympic tennis. The Chinese player will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (No. 51), who already pulled off an upset against her at the Cincinnati Open 2024.
Next up will be one of the most in-form players on the men's side: World No. 8 Lorenzo Musetti, second only to Alcaraz in terms of wins during this clay swing (a 13-1 record). The Italian is already a regular in the later stages of clay tournaments, and he's definitely one to watch when he's in this special state of inspiration. He debuts against qualifier Yannik Hanfmann (No. 137).

Lorenzo Musetti reached the final at Monte-Carlo Masters, and semis in Madrid and Rome.
Closing out the day on the main court will be American Ben Shelton (No. 13), who drew a tough opponent in Lorenzo Sonego (No. 44). Sonego has a couple of second-week appearances at Roland Garros, in addition to reaching the semifinals at the Rome Open. The Italian undoubtedly has the tools to perform his best on clay courts, and in a long match, Shelton won't be able to rely solely on his serve if he wants to emerge victorious.

Court Suzanne Lenglen

It's a return to the French Open for Elina Svitolina (No. 13), a tournament where she's never been eliminated in the first round in her 11 previous appearances. With a 29-11 (73%) record and four quarterfinal appearances, Svitolina will be a player to watch these coming weeks. She'll face 23-year-old Turk Zeynep Sonmez (No. 76), who is still seeking her first Grand Slam main draw victory.
Next up will be local hope Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (No. 37), currently the third-highest ranked Frenchman, who at 21 years old inspires excitement about his potential. Playing in front of his home crowd could be a boost for a player whose game relies on his notable serve, though it will be less effective on clay than on other surfaces. He'll face Belgian Zizou Bergs (No. 49), who last year pulled off an upset against the 24th seed Alejandro Tabilo on his way to the third round.
Americans will be represented this day by Frances Tiafoe (No. 15), who has never seemed comfortable in Paris, and in 9 appearances, has only reached the third round once—his best result so far. His opponent, Roman Safiulin (No. 73), will be ready to spring a surprise; he's a player who has been inconsistent, but can cause upsets when he's playing well.

Tiafoe has a losing record 4-9 at the French Open
Closing out the day will be none other than Jasmine Paolini (No. 4), who arrives to defend the final she reached in 2024. The Italian is on a hot streak of 6 consecutive wins after claiming the title at the Rome Open, defeating Coco Gauff in the final. This time she debuts against China's Yuan Yue (No. 89), who has a record of 10 consecutive losses in WTA-level main draws.
