Serena Williams seemed to retire last year and that was all but confirmed with the announcement that she was due to welcome a second child, with her husband Alexis Ohanian.
Williams has now given birth with the couple confirming on social media that daughter Adira River had been born.
“I’m grateful to report our house is teaming with love: a happy & healthy newborn girl and a happy & healthy mama. Feeling grateful,” Ohanian wrote on Instagram. “@Serenawilliams you’ve now given me another incomparable gift—you’re the GMOAT. Thanks to all the amazing medical staff.”
He ended his Social Media post with a quote. “Your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.”
Serena did it a different way sharing a TikTok of the new family of four, with daughter Olympia now five having a new little sister. This decision to build a family saw her step away from tennis. She penned an essay with Vogue last year.
“Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity,” she wrote.
While sister, Venus Williams at the age of 43 continues to dream in her tennis mission, there is more reason to celebrate now with Serena Williams achieving a post tennis ambition with the building of her family.
