The US Open has been accused of 'cheating' Novak Djokovic out of more titles by his compatriot and basketball star Danilo Andjusic.
23-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic has won the major at Flushing Meadows three times, but several factors have prevented him from lifting the trophy in New York since his last victory in 2018.
In 2019, the Serb was defeated by fellow Big Three member Rafael Nadal in the fourth round of the Slam. Then, in 2020, he was disqualified from the tournament for accidentally hitting a line official with a ball that was not in play. He went on to reach the final in 2021, but lost to current world No. 3 Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic barred from US in 2022

However, perhaps the most controversial incident for Djokovic in the last five years was when he was unable to compete in the 2022 US Open due to his unvaccinated status. At the time, the US federal government had barred non-vaccinated internationals from entering the country.
Now, it appears as though Andjusic was alluding to this recent controversy in his tweet accusing the US Open of cheating Djokovic. This came after the New York major made a post celebrating the 36-year-old's latest victory at the Cincinnati Open and his record-breaking sporting achievements in general.
"No one currently playing has won more than Novak Djokovic," they wrote.
In response to this, Andjusic tweeted:
""He would win even more if you didn’t cheat."

Djokovic a favorite to win 2023 US Open title

As the second seed, Djokovic is undoubtedly one of the favorites to win this year's US Open title. This is further encouraged by his win at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, where he defeated current world No. 1 and defending US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz.
If he were to lift a fourth trophy at Flushing Meadows, he would surpass Serena Williams' 23 Grand Slams and equal Margaret Court's record of 24 major titles, the most ever achieved by a singles player.
