With fans still divided over the recent news regarding the mixed doubles format change at the upcoming US Open, tournament director Stacey Allaster has hinted at even more changes coming at the North American Grand Slam event.

The mixed doubles event in New York later this year will see some significant changes, with the draw being halved from 32 to 16 players. Additionally, the first three rounds will feature a different scoring system, as sets will be played with the first team to reach four games. The tournament will also be played over two days (August 19-20).

Changes could be coming to the doubles events, says Allaster

In an appearance on the Served With Andy Roddick podcast, Allaster spoke on the recent mixed doubles changes that will take place at Flushing Meadows later this year. However, the US Open tournament director also alluded to making a few more tweaks to the men's and women's doubles events.

"We are seriously considering delaying the start [of men’s and women’s doubles] from Wednesday to Friday but we haven’t made a final decision,” said Allaster. “The focus has been on the mixed and I know Eric [Butorac] and I want to chat more with the tours and athletes about whether or not we should do that.
We talked about an on-site entry [for singles players who go out]. That seemed to be well received, so one step at a time."

Furthermore, Allaster noted that she was considering on-site entry to the US Open doubles tournament for players who suffer early exits in New York.
