Evian teamed up with Circle Line Cruises to launch New York’s first floating tennis court in celebration of the U.S. Open final, with retired tennis star
Maria Sharapova on-board to witness the festivities.
The global water company launched the S.S Evian on Sunday, with passengers watching Novak Djokovic capture the men's title as they enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and lobster rolls amid Evian pink regalia.
Sharapova plays host, volleys with fan
The five-time Grand Slam champion has been an Evian ambassador for over a decade, and hosted a question-and-answer session during the cruise. Afterwards, the former World No.1 stepped onto Evian’s waterside court to volley with one lucky fan. It was her first time playing tennis in heels.
"It’s fashion week," sad Sharapova. "We’re watching the U.S. Open final. It’s like bridging sport and fashion."
Furthermore, the Russian had high praise for 2023
US Open champion Coco Gauff, who won her maiden Grand Slam title on Saturday.
"She has the ability to transcend the sport in so many ways, bridging entertainment and sport and culture and fashion,” Sharapova said. “She’s got such a great voice. Most importantly, she’s an amazing competitor.”
