Due to an ongoing foot injury @RafaelNadal has called an end to his 2021 season 🤕 We wish him all the best in his recovery and are eagerly awaiting his return 🙏 #Wimbledon
Rafael Nadal curtailing his 2021 season due to his left foot injury which has blighting him for some years has brought attention on potential surgery for the legendary Spaniard.
But with Nadal suffering from Muller-Weiss syndrome, Gilbert Versier who is the former head of orthopaedic department at Vincennes military hospital explained the condition and that as a result, he advises against surgery for Nadal.
"Such a procedure jams up the foot leaving the patient able to walk but not run. That's why we delay such operations and perform them only on patients who are in a lot of pain and unable to walk properly. Of course that is not the case with Nadal. Any surgical procedure, resection of a part of bone or grafts by taking part of the pelvic bone is a practice which is no longer allowed at the top level of sport," he said to AS.
