Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz received widespread acclaim for their triumphs in Barcelona and Stuttgart this past week but that did not reflect in the prize money between the two tournaments which are both 500 events on the respective calendars.
David Law, who is a commentator for BBC Radio 5 Live and also part of the popular The Tennis Podcast took to Twitter to showcase the difference.
Alcaraz took home €477,000 for besting Tsitsipas in Sunday's final, while for Swiatek who emerged in a tough field in Stuttgart defeating Aryna Sabalenka - it was €104,000.
Comments were made about Swiatek also receiving the Porsche for winning the tournament but the point was rendered irrelevant as Law pointed out saying that the winner of Doha in the ATP and WTA both receive them and the prize money is still massively different.
The prize money debate has been stoked as of late by the likes of Jessica Pegula and Denis Shapovalov, with the Italian Open also looking for equality between the two tours in terms of prize money in the coming years.
