The brother of
Novak Djokovic, Djordje Djokovic is certain that
Nick Kyrgios would have signed up for the
Srpska Open had he been healthy enough to play.
Djokovic and Kyrgios have been described and tennis' most notorious bromance that blossomed after Kyrgios spoke up for Djokovic during the Australian Open visa fiasco. Since then they've become quite close to one another and that wasn't the case previously as Kyrgios launched a few attacks on the Serb previously.
He most famously called him out over his Adria Tour during the pandemic but they've been cool as of late. Djokovic's brother even believes that Kyrgios would have come to Banja Luka at the invitation of Novak had he been healthy:
"The contract was never signed, but I am still in contact with his people to this day. I
am almost convinced that he would have played in Banja Luka, let's say
99 percent, only if not for the surgery. I think he is also sorry,
because he is first of all a great entertainer of the audience, but also
a great tennis player."
Djordje added:
"People forget how good a tennis player he is because of
everything that happens off the court and the controversies. He is great
and honest. When the world turned against Novak, he was the first to
stand behind him and against his government. He will never forget that and, as far as we are concerned, he
will always be welcomed with open arms and the door is always open to
him. He is quite young, Novak has who knows how many more years to play,
so we will certainly succeed in bringing him to Belgrade, and maybe to
Banja Luka one day, we will see."
