Former world number 1, Venus Williams is celebrating her 40th birthday as the American still wants to win another Grand Slam title.

Venus Williams is the oldest player in Top 100 on both ATP & WTA Tour. The American turned pro already back in 1994 as 14-years-old and is now more than 25 years on the WTA Tour. The older of Williams' sister met on the court with 2 generations of tennis players. She played against likes of Lindsay Davenport, Mary Pierce, or Conchita Martinez. And she also played Bianca Andreescu or only 16-years-old rising star Coco Gauff.
Williams now represents greatness on the WTA Tour as she is one of the most successful players to ever step on a tennis court. She triumphed at the 7 Grand Slam tournaments in singles and another 14 in doubles. She also added another 2 mixed doubles Grand Slam titles for a total of 23 Grand Slam titles during her career. In a recent interview, Venus Williams revealed that she would still like to win the Roland Garros and Australian Open where she reached the final.
“I’d love to win the French Open,” she added. “I’ve come close. And the Australian, I’ve come close too, just unlucky there it seems?”
Some of the greatest American tennis players like Chris Evert or Martina Navratilova paid tribute to Williams. They both agree that it's incredible that she can still play and show her greatness in her forties.
"I am amazed at how passionate and committed she is at the age of 40," Evert told wtatennis.com. "The thing that impresses me is her intensity and the fact she still competes at the highest level after 20-plus years. She still loves the game, the competition, the training, the travel, the challenge, the pressure and the stage. When someone starts competing at a high level on the pro tour as a teenager, I wouldn’t expect to see them at 40 still going strong."
"I'm amazed that Venus is still playing on the WTA Tour at the age of 40," Martina Navratilova told wtatennis.com. "Especially, when you consider she has also been dealing with Sjögren's syndrome, an auto-immune disease that can sap your energy. That significant birthday is the occasion to pause and recognise that Venus's impact goes way beyond the tennis court. Her greatest impact has been socially, politically and culturally. As well as a champion tennis player, she's also an iconic figure and a leader in the fight for equality."
