Nick Kyrgios took to social media to share his agreement with controversial TV personality Piers Morgan's comments calling US football star Megan Rapinoe arrogant.
2022 Wimbledon finalist Kyrgios is known for speaking his mind both in person and online, something which he has done again recently on X, formerly known as Twitter, as he agreed with Morgan's condemnation of Rapinoe's conduct.
This comes in the aftermath of team USA's early exit from the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, currently taking place across Australia and New Zealand. The two-time defending champions lost their Round of 16 match against Sweden 5-4 on penalties, shocking football fans the world over.
In the wake of this defeat, Rapinoe received criticism for laughing after missing her shot in the penalty shootout, and the censure didn't end there for the 38-year-old.
Indeed, a video from 2019 also resurfaced showing Rapinoe signing a ball for a young fan. Whilst this sounds harmless enough, Morgan shared his criticism of the situation at the time, accusing Rapinoe of barely acknowledging the boy throughout the interaction.
"Wow. Doesn't even look at him.. such an arrogant piece of work," Morgan tweeted.
Following the video's re-appearance, Morgan doubled down on his critique, posting:
"Doesn't even look at him. Diabolical arrogance."
Following this, Kyrgios posted about his agreement with Morgan on twitter.
"Hahahahahaha one thing me and piers [Morgan] agree on," he wrote.
However, some social media users accused the 28-year-old of similar behavior:
"you do the exact same the majority of the time," commented one. Meanwhile, others suggested the clip could have been taken out of context:
"How do we make a judgement based on such a short video? Perhaps he talked to her before and went back to get something for her to autograph," responded one, whilst yet another pointed out that Rapinoe had done what the boy asked:
"She signed it, didn’t she?," they wrote.
The Australian player has missed most of the 2023 season so far due to various injuries, and it is currently unclear when the former world No. 13 will return to the court.
