John McEnroe showed that he is still able to hold his own against younger players in a rally against
Novak Djokovic.
The 64-year-old had a hugely successful career in the 1970s and 80s, winning seven Grand Slam titles and 77
ATP singles titles. He is also the only male tennis player to have been World No. 1 in both singles and doubles simultaneously and he has left a huge impact on the sport.
McEnroe took to the court against current World No. 1 Djokovic as part of his ESPN+ series McEnroe's Places, inspired by the football documentary Peyton's Places, hosted by legendary American football player Peyton Manning.
McEnroe aces Djokovic in rally
Djokovic has had another dominant season this year, winning the Australian Open and the Roland Garros before equaling Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam titles at the US Open last month.
The Serbian player featured in two episodes of the documentary series, titled "Djoker's Wild", and was seen engaging in a hitting session with McEnroe in the second part.
The American was outplayed by the 36-year-old in the first rally but came back looking strong with a powerful ace on his second serve. Djokovic reacted to the shot with astonishment, putting his hands on his head.
Meanwhile, McEnroe jokingly thanked Djokovic for leaning the opposite way to the shot.
"Thank you for leaning that way," he said.
The pair then played a third rally during which McEnroe scored an impressive winner.
"Oh my gosh. That's too good," Djokovic said, praising his fellow tennis legend.
