Wawrinka had seen off Roman Safiullin and Oscar Otte in three setter's and like his last one against Otte, he also went a set down against Nagal.
Nagal was his first seeded test of the week and the World No.127 came through the first set 6-2. He took a break straight away in a long opening service game which he won on his second break point.
It went on serve from there but he broke again to make it 5-2 to wrestle control of the first set. From there though Wawrinka began to find his rhythm and breezed through 6-0 and 6-1 in only 45 minutes for the two sets to book his place in the semi-finals.
The World No.17 still remains the player to beat in the Czech capital and next will be home hero Michael Vrbensky with the 20-year-old taking out Elias Ymer in straight sets.
