Toni Nadal says his nephew Rafael Nadal wants to play the Australian Open and joked that he's hoping for a stroke of fortune to recapture his pre injury form.
Nadal is currently training and Uncle Toni as he is known said that he is getting better and has the Australian Open as an aim. The Spaniard has admitted in recent days that he will only play in Melbourne if he is pain free.
Contrary to Craig Tiley, the tournament director at the Australian Open who announced his return at a press conference earlier this month. This went down like a lead balloon when it seemed that Nadal had not fully confirmed anything yet.
Uncle Toni also joked that all that was needed now was injury to one of the big names in Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic and for them to have problems so Rafael Nadal can usurp them and return to his best.
"He wants to play the Australian Open. I’ve seen him practicing these last few days. He’s practicing much better. Now what we need is an injury of Alcaraz, Djokovic, & maybe Medvedev. We need them to have a lot of problems, then Rafa can play very good," he said via Majorca Daily Bulletin.
