Anett Kontaveit, who was World Number Two only last year retired at Wimbledon this past July with crippling back injuries being the cause, but she is back in exhibition action at least.
Kontaveit made a good start to her campaign at the Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters seeing off 2016 Olympic Gold medallist,
Monica Puig 6-4, 6-4.
A tournament which includes the likes of Lucie Safarova, Kim Clijsters and Daniela Hantuchova, it was Kontaveit that notched the first win sealing breaks early in both sets as well as towards the end to take both 6-4, 6-4.
She is already set to play exhibition tennis again in Tallinn in December in a sold out arena against Ons Jabeur as her Estonian fans will get a farewell to one of their recent great hopes.
"It felt a little strange. It took me some time to get used to being on-court. The match was very hard, and physically extremely demanding," said Kontaveit post match.
"I tried to play as aggressively as I could, as I didn't want to let the rallies go on for too long. At the same time, I held back so as to avoid unforced errors."
