Day Three at
Wimbledon is well underway, featuring extensive action from North American players in both the men's and women's draws.
Madison Keys delivered the first American victory of the day, while
Taylor Fritz is set to close out the night against rising Canadian star
Gabriel Diallo.
Meanwhile,
Felix Auger-Aliassime leads the Canadian charge on a day that began with a tough loss for
Leylah Fernandez. Below are the details of the second-round matches for the North American representatives.
Keys powers past Danilovic
The 2025 Australian Open champion secured another straightforward victory in the second round of Wimbledon. The world No. 8 demonstrated her favoritism against the talented Serbian Olga Danilović (No. 37), comfortably winning 6-4, 6-2. Keys was dominant on her serve, landing 80% of her first serves and winning 73% of those points.
The match began with a first set where Keys squandered an opportunity to serve for the set at 5-3 but immediately broke back to close it out. In the second set, she simply needed to hold her serve and convert 2 out of 10 break opportunities against Danilović. Keys will face the surprising German Laura Siegemund in the third round, who comes off eliminating Leylah Fernandez.
Brooksby falls to rising star Fonseca
Jenson Brooksby (No. 101) couldn't overcome the talented teenager Joao Fonseca (No. 54), who advanced to the third round of Wimbledon for the first time with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory. The Brazilian showcased a very high level in his debut at SW19, defeating the American in just over three hours of play.
Fonseca tallied an incredible 50 winners compared to 'only' 34 from his opponent. While Fonseca also committed more unforced errors (45 to Brooksby's 33), it was a match where both players had opportunities to take the lead in each set. Ultimately, it was the Brazilian who capitalized better on critical points, converting 6 of 18 break points versus Brooksby's 3 of 13. The 18-year-old is now preparing for a tough matchup against qualifier Nicolás Jarry, who is playing at an impeccable level with five consecutive victories, including an upset over eighth seed Holger Rune in the first round.
Fernandez upset by Siegemund
The 29th seed was considered the favorite today against the veteran Siegemund, who is currently ranked No. 104. However, the German dominated the match from start to finish, converting 4 out of 7 break points and saving all 3 break points against her. The German reached the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in 5 main draw appearances with a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Fernandez bids farewell to Wimbledon in the second round for the third consecutive time. She has only reached the third round at majors twice in her last 12 appearances. The 22-year-old currently sits at world No. 34 and will need to seek strong results in the coming weeks to secure a seeded spot at the US Open in a couple of months.
Anisimova advances to third Round, downs Zarazua
Amanda Anisimova secured a relatively comfortable victory against Mexican Renata Zarazua (No. 71), winning 6-4, 6-3 in just over an hour and a half. The American struggled with service consistency—facing constant break points throughout the match—but proved especially effective in critical moments. She capitalized on an early advantage in the first set to claim it, then rallied from a break down in the second, guaranteeing her return to the third round of a major.
The American is back in the third round of Wimbledon—where she reached the quarterfinals back in 2022—and now boasts six Grand Slam victories this season. Anisimova's next opponent will be the surprising Hungarian Dalma Gálfi, who recently eliminated 21st seed Beatriz Haddad Maia.
