Simona Halep played her first match since winning the trophy in 2019 at Wimbledon and she destroyed Karolina Muchova in two sets 6-3 6-2.
This was a superb performance from Halep who finally returned to Wimbledon where she lifted the trophy in 2019. Halep played plenty of grass matches but retired in her last one due to a neck injury. Nothing looked wrong today as she smashed Karolina Muchova easily in two sets.
Muchova struggled with injuries this season as well but looked rather strong on clay when she returned. She has a pretty solid game for grass so this win by Halep was very impressive. Her play was as well as she cruised in both sets.
After getting an early break in the opening set Halep routinely won her service game finishing it off with another break. Halep was superb from the baseline forcing Muchova to overhit quite a few balls and that proved crucial.
The 2nd set featured a very similar script as he took an early break once again routinely holding her serve till the finish line. She served extremely well which was good to see considering her neck bothered her at the previous event quite a bit.
