After Naomi Osaka headed out on Monday evening, all eyes were on Bianca Andreescu who remains one of the main contenders for the title at the US Open and she delivered a superb display to reach her first Grand Slam Quarter-Final.
Andreescu stormed through the first set playing like a veteran claiming it 6-1 with a flurry of winners as she counteracted Taylor Townsend's serve and volley play to start it all off.
From there, she stormed into a 4-0 lead and despite being pegged back, she took the set in only 31 minutes.
Despite that, the 19-year old Canadian had a brief wobble losing the second set with Townsend going 3-0 up and despite Andreescu responding in kind to level the set, the American started to find her range claiming the second set after a seventh double fault from her opponent.
In the final set it was a lot easier for Andreescu who broke in the opening game and despite Townsend keeping it close, two loose points on serve allowed the former to move two games away.
Townsend saved four match points on serve but she didn't last much longer with Andreescu completing the win.
Also impressing was Elise Mertens with the No.25 seed moving through to the Quarter-Finals without dropping a set after seeing off Kristie Ahn, 6-1, 6-1 without dropping a set.
The latter had been enduring the week of her life winning through to the fourth round brilliantly but ran out of steam in the end in an impressive performance from the Belgian.
