Serena Williams cemented her favourite tag for the 2019 US Open going into the latter stages at Flushing Meadows after easing past Qiang Wang.
Wang had been in giant killing form after easing past Ashleigh Barty in a brilliant performance for the Chinese ace but she couldn't repeat the feat.
Williams broke serve five times and hit 25 winners as she won through 6-1, 6-0 as she chases a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam title.
Next up for her though is potentially an even tougher task in Elina Svitolina. The Ukrainian fifth seed
edged past Johanna Konta.
Only Caty McNally has really pushed Serena so far and so the pressure will be ranked on the highly ranked Wimbledon semi-finalist to push her all the way and deny her a first Grand Slam title since returning from giving birth in 2017.
