The Asian tour tournaments kick off in September on the calendar with the WTA 250 Japan Open in Osaka, set for September 11-17, 2023.
The tournament started in 2009 and was played in Osaka until 2019, but was moved to Hiroshima for a few years. This year, it returns to Osaka, and the players who will enter the main draw of 32 singles players have already been announced.
Among the favorites in the tournament will be Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (world No. 45), Lin Zhu (48th), Linda Fruhvirtova (55th), and Peyton Stearns (58th).
Currently, 20 players have been confirmed, as the organizers are still awaiting the finalization of their wild card entries. The results of the qualifying matches, scheduled in the days leading up to the Japanese WTA 250 event, will also play a role in completing the field.
The tournament will also feature the defending champion in Osaka, local player Nao Hibino, who also claimed the doubles title that year alongside fellow Japanese player Misaki Doi.
The Japan Open will mark the beginning of the Asian leg of the second part of the season. While WTA 500 tournaments were played in Abu Dhabi and Doha in February, along with the WTA 1000 Dubai Open, this time the tournaments will span across Japan, China, South Korea, and Hong Kong.
