Alexandra Eala guaranteed a medal after latest Asian Games victory

Alexandra Eala has guaranteed herself at least a bronze medal at the 20th Asian Games, as her gamble at least for now has paid off. She advanced to the last four with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Joanna Garland in the quarter-finals on Wednesday afternoon. This while the China Open takes place.
In their first official match against each other, it was very much nip and tuck to start, as they broke each other's serve in the first two games. Both also held serve in the third and fourth games to see it tied up at 2-2.
Eala took a 3-2 lead with a second break in the fifth game. Garland bounced back with a break of her own in the sixth and seventh games to take the driver's seat at 4-3 up.
The trend continued with breaks as it was made into a tight first set at 5-5. Before, Eala went on a three-game run to finish it off, sealing a crucial break in the 11th game to claim a one-set advantage at 7-5.

Eala's return was on point as she won 29-17, receiving points against Garland in the opening set. Into the second set, Eala snatched the momentum further. She continued to lead, taking a 4-0 lead, including a second and fourth game break.
Eala claimed another break in the fifth game and capped off the six by holding to complete a second consecutive bagel in the second set. She had seen off Patcharin Cheapchandej in the last 16.

Up next will be Wang Xiyu of China in the semi-finals, who dispatched Moyuka Uchijima in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, and 6-1. Eala will also play doubles as she aims to win multiple medals. She teams with Shaira Rivera later this afternoon against China's Jiang Xiyu and Yang Zhaoxuan.
