Alize Cornet hinted at a final season on the WTA tour, with her send-off event likely to occur at the 2024
Olympic Games in Paris.
The veteran player has been a staple on tour since turning pro in 2006, winning six WTA singles titles during her career. Furthermore, the former World No.11 also holds some signature wins over top-ranked players, defeating WTA legend Serena Williams on three consecutive occasions in 2014, with one win coming at Wimbledon.
Cornet hints at retirement in Instagram post
In a recent Instagram story, the 33-year old alluded to the 2024 season being her last on tour. Additionally, she implied she would likely hang up her racket at the conclusion of the Olympic Games, which take place in her homeland of Paris, France.
"Now my goal is still to get back for a little ride before the end of my career, so I'm saying to you soon (really really soon) for new adventures! And a final season?" quizzed Cornet on Instagram.
Cornet has been dealing with injuries over the last few years of her career. Nonetheless, she upset World No.1 Iga Swiatek at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, and defeated defending champion Emma Raducanu in the first round of the 2022 US Open. Cornet also has the record for most consecutive Grand Slam appearances with 67, having appeared in 70 Grand Slam singles events overall.
