John McEnroe has suggested that Emma Raducanu only being 18 and not fully developing in life at the time could be behind her US Open regret.
Raducanu became an overnight sensation after winning the 2021 US Open in a year she was still taking exams back in the UK and leaving school.
All of that was put to one side as endorsements and then scrutiny came calling which she still faces to this day.
Off the court at the moment due to surgeries, Raducanu spoke a few weeks ago about her own personal regret sometimes at winning the tournament and all that came with it.
But McEnroe believes she will look back at the end of her career and be glad but also that not having the chance to be a kid before growing up also played its part.
"I'm sure if you ask her at the end of her career would you rather have one major or none, if it turns out that way, she would rather win one," McEnroe told the US Sun.
"[But] one of the reasons why I think kids go to college is that it gives them time to grow up and mature so they can handle things if and when something like this happens.
"So it's more difficult when you're an 18-year-old and all of a sudden your world changes so drastically."
