Simona Halep won the All-Romanian clash with Irina Begu advancing to the next round of Roland Garros.
Simona Halep has been on winning streak as of late and it didn't stop today at the Roland Garros. Irina Begu stepped up to the challenge and while she put up a valiant effort it wasn't enough. The start of the match was great for Halep who broke Begu early to take a 3-0 lead. She maintained it for a while but ultimately Begu found a way to break her back to make it 4-3. Halep isn't one to give up leads easily so she stepped up and broke Begu once again to take a 5-3 lead before ending the set with 6-3.
The 2nd set was a fascinating one as well. It was clear that both players knew each other well as it was expected and they knew the weakness of one another also. Both tried to take advantage of those weaknesses and Halep was the first one to do so in the 2nd set. Begu pulled it right back to make it 2-2 and we went on a stretch of calm tennis. Both played well and both kept their serve.
Late in the set, Halep broke Begu once more and it proved the crucial break as it was at 4-4. She then went on to serve very well in the next one sealing the deal at 6-4. A very good performance for Halep who extends winning streak and marches on towards her goal which is the Roland Garros trophy.
