There is still no escaping the escapades and drama of earlier this week in California. However, after everything said and all the speculation following the incident, it seems like water under the bridge for Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva following the Russian's latest Instagram post.
The WTA Finals had been moved to Indian Wells from Riyadh earlier this year, with the best eight players in the world stepping foot onto the court for a practice session or two to get themselves ready for the tournament.
It is a hugely prestigious event, with the rewards for a deep run immense. It was the tournament that began Elena Rybakina's upward surge in the sport, seeing her return as the World No.1 and with another two Grand Slam titles as she looks to defend her crown.
Pegula and Andreeva are two of her rivals looking to upset this possible outcome. Andreeva missed out on qualification back in 2025 by a slim tally of points, and the Roland Garros champion is still yet to play a singles match at the WTA Finals.
Before she could open her account, the 19-year-old was already unknowingly under attack by Pegula, with audio picking up everything the American had said about her.

However, in this incident, it seems that everyone has moved on with their lives and is finding the funny side of it. On Instagram, Andreeva posted a number of different pictures from her time in Indian Wells, including the photoshoots done routinely before the tournament.
One of which was her standing alongside the American No.2. This was captioned: "Divas." This was in response to Pegula calling Andreeva a diva on court. In the comments, Pegula took her own medicine, as he responded, "*Divas in Chanel*."

Dramatic preparation for WTA Finals sets up hugely intriguing tournament

This week at Indian Wells has been an entertaining one from the perspective of a tennis fan, but for the WTA is another nightmare to pile onto their list of problems. However, it seemingly has been resolved ahead of competition.
It all began when a livestream of Pegula's practice with Andreeva detected what the former US Open finalist was saying, with audio picking up every word. Part of what she said read, “Conchita has always been very nice to me but I’ve lost a little respect for her because I think, like this girl. I think she’s a nice girl but she’s a diva, she needs to be humbled. She needs to be, like, put in her place. It’s like Conchita doesn’t know how to do it. Just stand up to her," Pegula was heard saying.
“If I was a coach and my girl played four great games. You’re up 4-0, and you’re mad at me and hitting balls at me. I would feel like, first of all, that’s disrespectful to the other person - you’re up 4-0, shut the f--- up. I feel like Conchita pokes her and eggs on her behaviour."
It obviously got a lot of traction online but was not the only one. Rybakina was caught saying something to his coach, Stefano Vukov, in a tense manner before greeting Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova ahead of their practice session. While not as well-documented compared to the Pegula-Andreeva debacle, it is still another blunder by the WTA who issued out an apology after a miscommunication over the microphones courtside.
“The WTA takes full responsibility for failing to inform our players and their teams that microphones, in place to give fans a livestream of the players' practice, were active on the courts at the WTA Finals. We sincerely apologise for failing to meet our responsibility to ensure players and coaches were properly informed.”
Funnily enough, Pegula and Andreeva have never played each other before. That highly anticipated first matchup will have to wait for the time being with them in different groups. The action begins on Sunday at 12pm local time, with Rybakina taking on debutant Noskova to open proceedings before the American duo of Pegula and Coco Gauff clash to complete the opening round of fixtures in Group A. Group B commences Monday. Two-time runner-up Aryna Sabalenka lines up against Karolina Muchova in her first-ever match at the WTA Finals, with Andreeva taking on Elina Svitolina.
