Alycia Parks
triumphed at the WTA 125 Warsaw Open, securing her second title in the last
month. The American seems to have found her form in recent weeks after winning
her second consecutive title.
A few weeks
ago, she claimed the Veneto Open, also a WTA 125 category tournament. Given the
low season Parks has had, she wasn't even in the top-150 until a few weeks ago,
struggling to enter the main draws of tournaments.
Parks clinches Warsaw Open title
In her week
in Warsaw, Alycia Parks advanced from the qualifiers and secured victories over
Ania Hertel, Linda Klimovicova, Isabella Shinikova, and Leonie Kung before
reaching the tournament final. There, she faced the 5th seed Maya Joint. In a
tight match, Parks came from a set down to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Until a few
weeks ago, Parks had just two wins in main draws of tournaments all season,
causing her ranking to plummet in recent months. She also secured some wins in
qualifiers throughout the season, notably at Wimbledon, where she reached the
main draw but lost to Caroline Wozniacki in the first round.
As a
result, the 23-year-old player will advance more than 20 positions in the
rankings, placing her at world No. 102 starting Monday, just 15 points away
from re-entering the top-100. Parks had promising performances in 2023, and it
was expected that this year she could make a definitive breakthrough. However,
Parks has had a 2024 far from what was anticipated, impacting her ranking.
Nevertheless,
her recent titles seem to be turning her year around, although she must
continue securing victories in minor tournaments if she hopes to return to the
big stages. Parks will not participate in the main tournaments of the hardcourt
swing, including the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open, and she is not on the
entry list for the US Open. However, she could gain entry to the fourth Grand
Slam of the year through a wildcard or by qualifying, as she did at Wimbledon.
